Carroll County and Howard County Massage Modalities and Treatments
Swedish:
Long, soothing strokes to relieve stress and encourage deep relaxation.
Deep Tissue/Neuromuscular/Trigger Point: The pressure used is much firmer and more specific than in Swedish. The therapist works closely with the client to find the depth needed to achieve the release of muscular tension.
Bamboo Therapy: This therapy is a deep tissue massage using heated bamboo sticks to release muscle tightness.
Myofascial Release: A gentle modality aimed at stretching out the body’s connective tissue (the most abundant tissue in the body that wraps around muscles and tendons) thereby relieving muscular tension. The process of stretching is slow, allowing for realignment of the body’s basic structure and deep relaxation of long-held tension.
Dynamic Body Balancing/ Myofascial Unwinding: Dynamic Body Balancing is a hands-on therapy intended to restore balance to the mind, body and spirit using craniosacral, myofascial, and unwinding techniques. Intended to release negative emotional and physical energy patterns, this modality resolves long-term pain and dysfunction. Clients are typically treated in a seated or standing position to accelerate healing and remove the restrictions of gravity. Earth Murphy is our Certified Dynamic Body Balancer.
Massage Cupping: Massage cupping originated in China. By creating suction and negative pressure, massage cupping softens tight muscles, loosens adhesions, and lifts connective tissue. This process brings in fluids and blood to body tissues, drains excess fluids and toxins by opening lymphatic pathways, and dispels stagnation. Conditions that respond well to massage cupping include, but are not limited to, fibromyalgia, sciatica, TMJ, arthritis, sluggish colon, IBS, scars, and adhesions. Massage cupping is a gentle, non-invasive technique.
Couples’ Massage: Relax with a friend or someone special with two simultaneous massages. These couples’ massages can be enjoyed in the same room or separately, but must be scheduled for the same time. Available in one hour or hour and a half increments.
Thai Massage: Take “Thaime” out to untie yourself with Thai massage. We are excited to offer Thai massage, which decreases pain and increases flexibility. Unlike a traditional massage, this bodywork is usually performed on a mat on the floor and involves heavy tapotement, deep kneading, and lots of stretching. The stretches resemble yoga poses, except that the client is completely relaxed! The therapist does all of the active stretches. Schedule your next appointment with Caitlyn.
Thai Herbal Massage: Thai herbal massage uses a heated ball filled with Thai herbs and spices (lemongrass, tumeric, prai, kaiffier lime, camphor, and tamarind). The herb-filled ball is pressed on acupressure lines using Swedish massage strokes. This technique helps relax and detoxify the body, increase blood flow, stimulate the lymphatic system, and reduce muscle tightness.
European Hot Stone Massage: One of our most relaxing treatments, heated stones are placed on specific points of the body to promote healing, while other stones are used simultaneously to perform a relaxing deep massage. The heat and weight of the stones will melt your tension away.
Ginger Tea Treatment: Ginger Tea is used for removal of built up toxins in the body. Hot towels soaked in the tea are applied to specific areas of the body, followed by a Deep Tissue Massage.
Raindrop Therapy: Enjoy an aromatic escape from your troubles. Therapeutic
Young Living essential oils are applied to the body and hot towels promote absorption of the oils. This technique detoxifies and relaxes the body.
Fibromyalgia Massage: Fibromyalgia sufferers need relief from the tight fascia around their muscles. Swedish massage tends to be too superficial; deep tissue massage can create a fibroflare; and myofascial release is effective but can be very painful, especially around the Tender Points. Fibromyalgia Massage was developed by a massage therapist who has fibromyalgia. This massage technique blends the best of several techniques while being conscientious about the needs of fibromyalgia sufferers.
Cancer / Mastectomy Massage: Gentle, relaxing bodywork techniques help reconnect the body. Special cushions provide comfort for mastectomy patients. Massage is good for either the caregiver or the loved one.
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy / Lymphatic Massage: This very gentle therapy is designed to flush the body’s lymphatic system, which is responsible for supporting the body’s immune system and helping fight infection. Flushing the system can help keep it strong and efficient.
Breast Health: Wu Ming Qigong improves breast health by unblocking stagnant energy in the meridians, or energy pathways, that run through the breast area. The immune system is bolstered and the body’s innate healing ability is unlocked by performing gentle exercises. Wu Ming Qigong is taught by Michele Pedersen.
Breast Cancer: Theresa Pstrak, owner of Beautiful Faces Permanent Makeup Salon, offers permanent tattoos, including Areola Pigmentation and Scar Revision. Visit her website at http://www.beautifulfacessalon.com/new/ or call 301.639.1218 for more details.

Cranial Sacral Therapy: Subtle massage movements of the sacral, spinal, and cranial bones in an attempt to bring the central nervous system into harmony. By gently working with the spine, skull, cranial sutures, diaphragm, and fascia, nerve constrictions are released and cerebrospinal fluid flows freely. This therapy is effective for migraines, TMJ, and fibromyalgia.
Reflexology: Specific pressure is applied to zones and reflex areas that correspond to all body parts, resulting in stress reduction and causing physiological changes in the body.
Japanese Zen Facial Massage: The Japanese Zen Facial massage incorporates aromatherapy and acupressure. Special massage strokes open up acupuncture meridians that energize and refresh the face, head, and shoulders. This gentle 60-minute facial massage increases blood flow, tones and tightens the skin and fascia, providing a nonsurgical facelift. This technique helps relieve discomfort from headaches, TMJ, and sinus issues.
Indian Head Massage: Indian mothers have massaged their babies’ hair, head, neck, and shoulders for centuries to stimulate growth and provide relaxation. This 60-minute Ayurvedic head massage uses essential oils to reduce muscle stiffness and relieve headaches. Indian Head Massage is rejuvenating and much more vigorous than the Japanese Zen facial.
Ayurvedic Kansa Vatki Foot Massage: Ayurvedic foot massage is nearly 5000 years old. This 45-minute massage nourishes the skin, improves blood and lymph circulation, revitalizes tired feet and legs, and soothes the mind. Qigong is a 5000 year old energy art for strengthening the flow of life force & improving health. Its recent surge in popularity has been a result of Qigong’s fun and dynamic movements of practice. Magnetic energy fields are formed and created in a slow graceful manner. The Qi (life force) literally throbs and pulsates in your hands. Some say it’s the most tangible experience of the spiritual life force energy. It yields a strong “Qi Feeling” in minutes.
Qigong is a significant self-empowerment technique. It is based on the fundamental science of life. Regardless of a person’s beliefs or cultural background, Qigong yields the same results – enhanced vitality and a clearer relationship with the True Source of that energy. There is a miraculous universe of Qi within each and every human being. Qigong is the practice of becoming more intimately aware of the miraculous energy that sustains all of our lives. It is quite possibly the most powerful form of exercise on Earth.

Essential oils are found in shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds. The chemical makeup found in essential oils defends plants against insects, environmental conditions, and disease. The oils help plants grow and live. Essential oils are produced by steam distillation. The oils are much stronger than dry herbs. Not only do essential oils smell good, but they can also be very therapeutic in nature. Oils have been used throughout the ages in many cultures. Oils can be used for aromatherapy, massage therapy, personal care, nutritional supplements, and household solutions.
