June Newsletter

This season is filled with change. Change in temperature, change in schedules, and change in the foods we eat. The warmer months call for lighter, cooler foods. Many people are planning vacations, and are wanting to “get in shape”, be healthy, and feel good. Often there doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day to get everything we need to get done and treat ourselves as well as we need to, in order to be the healthiest version of ourselves we aspire to be. This tends to be a more social time of year and we may spend more time outside and with our families. It is important to find a balance between having fun and caring for ourselves. This time of year we can get dehydrated or sunburned if we aren’t careful. I have a few fun ideas you can incorporate into your meals and also on your skin:

Both of these recipes incorporate doTerra essential oils that I am a big fan of because they are Therapeutic grade essential oils. They are the highest quality I have found thus far.
The first recipe is After Sun Cooling Spray:
-1/2 cup witch hazel
-2 TBS. pure aloe vera gel
-10 drops lavender essential oil
-10 drops peppermint essential oil (not to be used if pregnant or nursing)
-4 oz. spray bottle
Simply mix together and add to the spray
Do not spray around the eyes

The second one I love is if you have gotten a little too much sun:
I add 1/2 cup coconut oil(SBF 4-6), 10 drops of lavender, 2 tbs. non-nana zinc oxide(SPF- 2-20), and 1 tbs. red raspberry seed oil(SPF 25-50), mix together and cover areas that have gotten too much sun.

Try this amazing salad:
-½ c apple cider vinegar
-2 tbs. virgin olive oil
-8 large fresh basil leaves(chopped)
-1 tbs. lemon
-1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbs. minced shallot
-2 medium zucchinis chopped
- 8 ounces cherry tomatoes
-5 ounces small fresh mozzarella balls; salt and pepper to taste

Cilantro-Kale Pesto Dipping Sauce:
-2 ½ cups kale leaves
-1/3 cup cilantro leaves
-1/3 cup pepitas
-1 clove garlic
-3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
-1/4 tsp. salt
-1/8 tsp. black pepper

Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender and process until smooth.

Dip:

-1 cup Greek yogurt
-7 tbs. prepared cilantro-kale pesto
-salt and pepper to taste

In medium bowl, combine yogurt, cilantro-kale pesto. Stir until well combined. Season to taste additional salt and pepper. Serve with your favorite grilled veggies, such as sweet potatoes, zucchini, or red peppers.

May Newsletter

The saying April showers, May flowers, may sound redundant, but there is a wisdom to this statement. In order for the seeds we plant to thrive and flourish, we need to make sure that they receive plenty of water and nourishment so that they have the energy to become healthy plants or trees. Human beings are no different. We all need to have our essential needs met in order to flourish and thrive in our own lives. How many people can honestly say their lives reflect this? Most of the people I meet are just going along with the status quo, or mechanically going through the motions of what they have to do. They feel like there is something missing and they don’t exactly know what it is or don’t have time to even think about it. This begins to create imbalance in our minds, emotions, and bodies. Eventually the imbalances will turn up the volume until we pay attention. This can show up in the form of migraines, chronic pain, depression, insomnia, diseases, etc. These are all our body and minds ways to attempt to get our attention. What are our essential needs? Nourishing food, water, regular, consistent quality sleep, enjoyable movement, relaxation, self-care, connection, meaning, sunshine, fresh air, touch, joy/play. Feel free to add to this list.

May is also the month when we celebrate Mother s Day. Many women today are raising children, working, and taking care of household responsibilities, so the whole family can function. The mother is our initial foundation. When the mother is not caring for herself or appreciated and cared for, she becomes imbalanced. This can affect the whole family system. Please take the time to acknowledge, honor, appreciate, and give your support to someone who seems to be carrying it all. Many women may not be mothers, but may be caring for their own parents or someone else’s children, they deserve acknowledgment and appreciation, as well. A mother needs both a consistent self-care routine and a strong support system, in order to thrive. Self-care is not selfish, it is responsible. There are so many ways to implement a self-care routine into your life, even if it starts with 5 minutes a day, just for you.

Moms we need you and we need you to care of yourselves. To those who want to show their appreciation and offer their support to a mother you have or know, giving the gift of a massage can go along way. Health Coaching is another way moms can create support for themselves. As a Health Coach I work with women to help them determine the areas of their life they are wanting to experience more fulfillment in, support them in cultivating healthier relationships with themselves, and their life, and guide them in setting personalized goals in order to create lives that nourish them. Improvement in one area begins to impact the other areas because they are all connected. One example, is when my clients begin to make more nourishing food choices they begin to have more energy, think more clearly, feel better emotionally and physically, and sleep better. Your food choices may be fantastic, but you may feel other areas of your life are being neglected or are not where you’d like them to be. A Health Coach can help support you in strengthening those areas. I always begin where my clients are and go from there. If you are needing additional support in your life and don’t know where to start, sign up for an initial, 60 minute Health coaching Consultation, only $25 this month to determine if Health Coaching is for you. If you need a relaxing massage, we have many amazing massage therapists to choose from! I am looking forward to meeting you and being a support on your journey.

April Showers Newsletter

We are moving into end of April. This is a time where the winds pick up and the rain falls. It is the wisdom of the season that sends forth what is needed in order for the plants that nourish our bodies to grow and thrive. How can we relate this to our individual lives? What are the winds of change that are stirring in your life? What do you need more support with during your transition into spring? Is it grounding and focusing your thoughts and creating clear intentions about where you want to plant the seeds of your new beginnings? Is it finding the best detox for your mind and body, to clear out the old and make room for the new? Is it clearing out physical items that no longer serve you and giving them to those who would benefit from them; again making room for the new. How can we support you in cultivating the soil in your lives to create the rich ground the seeds you plant need to blossom into their fullest, most beautiful creation? Do you need to take time for self-care and water your garden with nutritious food, stress reducing modalities, rest, relaxation, rejuvenation, addressing and clearing out, old toxic thoughts? Wellness Journey Toward a Healthy New You
My name is Michele Pedersen and I have been on my own wellness journey for the past 25 years. In that 25 years I have been in several car accidents, suffered from chronic pain, have been severely anemic, had chronic UTI's, yearly bronchitis lasting for months at a time, smoked cigarettes for 10 years, had hypothyroidism, Lyme Meningitis, which lead to a near death experience, leaving me bedridden for months, and unable to function for years, chronic Lyme Disease, migraines, digestive issues, sleep disturbances, pre-diabetes, and debilitating fatigue, to name just a few health challenges I have walked through.
I have learned a tremendous amount about my body and its ability to heal and prevail, given the optimal environment to thrive in. Needless to say, my wellness journey has transformed my entire life and it did not happen overnight. I left no stone un-turned on my journey, as I was determined to return to a state of true wellness, and help others with health challenges to do the same. I did a tremendous amount of health research and healing in my 20's, quit smoking, went on a natural thyroid support, became a healthier vegetarian and experimented with the macrobiotic diet and lifestyle. I worked for a Naturopath and learned a great deal from him about natural approaches to health and wellness. I walked everyday, taught aerobics, and was becoming healthier and healthier. I went to school to become a massage therapist, and for the first time in my life, my chronic pain from from first accident was gone. My brain fog and fatigue left when I started taking the thyroid support and for the first time in years I started to feel my age. I worked in a healthfood store, and cooked gourmet vegetarian meals for new mom's and individuals with chronic illness and food sensitivities. I was in relatively good health when I got pregnant with my first daughter. I had a wonderful home birth with no interventions and breastfed her for 2 years.
I have since learned a tremendous amount about nutrition during pregnancy, healthy microbiome or "gut" during pregnancy and how this impacts your infant's immune system, and how important breastfeeding is for both the physical and emotional development of your baby. This inspired me to teach natural childbirth classes, as well. I now have a combined practice serving newly pregnant mom's and their birth partners , along with a health coaching practice, serving to empower individuals to reclaim their health, their births, and their lives, because we are the true authority over our bodies, births, and our well-being. All of my health related symptoms are gone. I have heard that Lyme disease is chronic. If I eat whole foods, stay hydrated, keep my cortisol levels down through relaxation exercises, daily meditation, walking, and having a regular sleep schedule, I feel great 95 % of the time. When I don't feel so great I ask my body what she is needing and give that to her, because my health and wellbeing is the foundation of my life and I cannot thrive in life without it. The purpose of life is to thrive, not just survive.
If you are experiencing fatigue, pain, headaches, stress, insomnia, digestive issues, mood swings, I would like to support you in creating a life you love and deserve. What are you waiting for? I am now offering 30 minute initial Health Coaching consultations fre of charge to determine if this transformational program is for you. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your wellness journey. Call Therapeutic Kneads for an appointment. Check out my website at michelepedersen.com to learn more about me.
